Installing expansions (Add-On, Resource Pack, Behavior Pack) for Minecraft PE Bedrock Edition on mobile devices has become much simpler nowadays. This article will guide you step-by-step to activate any mod on both Android and iOS operating systems quickly and accurately.
How to Install Add-Ons on Android Phones
For the Android operating system, depending on whether the downloaded file format is .mcaddon / .mcpack or a compressed .zip file, we have two ways to handle it as follows:
Method 1: Using automatic installation files (.mcaddon / .mcpack) This is the most convenient format as the system can automatically recognize the game:
- Use the file manager app on your phone or download the ZArchiver app from Google Play.
- Go to the Download folder where the downloaded Add-On file is stored.
- Click directly on the file with the
.mcaddonor.mcpackextension (or press and hold, choose the three dots, and select Open with). - Select the Minecraft app from the displayed list. The phone will automatically launch the game and show a successful Import notification at the top of the screen.
Method 2: Using compressed files (.zip) If the downloaded file has a .zip extension, you need to manually extract and move it into the game’s system storage:
- Open the ZArchiver app, locate the
.zipfile, and select Extract here. Usually, you will get two subfolders: Resource Pack (often denoted as RP) and Behavior Pack (often denoted as BP). - Copy (or cut) the folder denoted as RP, navigate to the path:
Device memory -> Android -> data -> com.mojang.minecraftpe -> files -> games -> com.mojang -> resource_packsand paste it there. - Continue copying the folder denoted as BP, navigate to a similar path, but paste it into the folder:
... -> games -> com.mojang -> behavior_packs.
How to Install Add-Ons on iOS (iPhone / iPad)
The iOS operating system has high security, so you should prioritize downloading files with standard automatic installation formats for the easiest operation:
- After downloading the
.mcaddonor.mcpackfile to your device using the Safari browser, open the built-in Files app on your iPhone/iPad. - Navigate to the Downloads folder.
- Press and hold the newly downloaded Add-On file, select Share, then find and tap the Minecraft app icon.
- The device will immediately open the game and automatically load the data pack into Minecraft PE’s memory.
Steps to Activate Add-On Packs in Minecraft Worlds
After completing the data import in the above steps, you must activate that data pack in the world settings for the mod to work:
- Launch Minecraft PE, select Play, then press Create New to create a new world (or tap the pencil icon next to an old world to edit).
- Scroll down the settings menu on the left side and find the two sections: Resource Packs and Behavior Packs.
- Click on My Packs, find the exact name of the Add-On you just installed, and press the Activate button to enable it (ensure the mod appears in the Active section).
